Experience the delightful flavors of Hungary with this savory cheese and pepper sandwich. Perfectly sautéed onions and vibrant bell peppers complement the rich cheese, creating a satisfying meal anytime.
Ingredients:
2 slices of rye bread
100g Hungarian cheese (like Trappista or Pálpusztai)
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1/2 bell pepper (red or green), thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: Paprika for seasoning
Fresh parsley for garnish
Steps:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the sliced bell pepper to the skillet and continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened.
Season with salt, pepper, and paprika, stirring well to combine.
While the vegetables are cooking, place the cheese on one slice of rye bread.
Once the peppers and onions are ready, layer them on top of the cheese.
Top with the second slice of bread to form a sandwich.
In the same skillet, toast the sandwich on both sides until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove from heat, slice in half, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
